Introducing wines from the Black Sea:
Dreamfish – Chardonnay 2015
Amazing fruit power. Ripe and thick, with lots of mango and toasted oak, a Chardonnay showing all the attributes. There’s a chewy, cherry, buttery, intensely tropical side to this full-bodied wine.
Sole – Chardonnay Feteasca Regala
Amazing fruit and power. Ripe and thick, with lots of mango and toasted oak. There’s chewy, cherry, buttery, intensely tropical side to this full-bodied wine.
I AM – Pinot Noir 2015
Gorgeous flavors, almost syrupy in its concentration. Dark, rich and potent, with layers of complex black cherry, raspberry and cinnamon. Deep, with pretty fruit cake and spicy aromatics. Lingering aftertaste.
La Putere – Feteasca Neagra 2013
Strong aromas of fruits (sour cherries, currants, plums), flowers and slightly vegetal aromas. It initially resembles wet tree roots after rain and the young plants in the forest, followed by notes of fruits and flowers, with vague tints of vanilla. Attack above average, very good acidity, a lively taste, with active, persistent tannins and integrated alcohol. Good body and taste dynamics, slightly vegetal ending interesting aftertaste for a young wine.
Sole – Spumante
Straw yellow, with slow shades of green. Elegant and fine toast aromas, completed with shades of acacia flowers, slightly buttery, green apple. The acidity supports the entire body and keeps the aromatic intensity, the conclusion being given by a balanced and long aftertaste. Fine, elegant pearling with an average persistence.

The history of wine in the area goes back at least 6,000 years and several countries, including Georgia and Bulgaria, claim to be the birthplace of wine. Successive Greek and, particularly, Roman colonization ensured that wine production prospered. The Mediterranean climate meant good growing conditions for the wines.
Although still early days, modern DNA and other testing techniques are revealing a store of different, often unique, grape varieties. Sometimes these grape varieties are ones that have originated in the region and then moved out through colonization. One example is the Crljenak Kastelanski grape from Croatia. This was revealed in 2001 to be the grape that moved to Puglia in Southern Italy where it is known as Primitivo and then on to California where it is known as Zinfandel.
Due to suitable climate, relief and soils, viticulture became a current activity of the local inhabitants mainly in the hilly areas. Numerous local wine grape varieties have been obtained during medieval time by empirical selection, becoming representatives for Romanian wine regions. Up to the phylloxera crisis, each Romanian wine region has its own wine grape assortment, that generate specific local wines. Since the medieval period, wine has been the traditional alcoholic beverage of the Romanians.
Romania has about 187,000 hectares of vine plntations, that ranks it on sixth place between the European wine-producing countries. With a wine production of about 4.5 mil hl/year Romania is the thirteenth largest wine producing country in the world.
