Our superb wines this months:
Bayanegra, La Mancha Spain
Spain is a land of breathtaking landscapes, colorful history and a deep, complex culture in which wine has long played an important role. Grape vines have been grown on the Iberian Peninsula since at least 3000 B.C. Today, Spain is home to more vines than any other country on Earth, and has a national wine output exceeded only by France and Italy. The vineyards are 800m above sea level with very cold winters and dry summers, warm by day and fresh at night, therefore the grapes mature very slowly. The fermentation happens in stainless steel tanks. The grapes are whole bunch pressed.
A Spanish wine of pale yellow colour with floral and herbal aromas, balanced fruity wine with medium body. Airen is a drought-resistant white wine grape planted throughout central Spain, occupying about twice as much land there as any other variety. Airen is planted most notably in Spain’s inland La Mancha and Valdepenas wine regions, where its tolerance of hot, dry conditions and poor soils made it the obvious choice of grape variety.
Bayanegrae Tempranillo 2017
A Spanish wine of red cherry colour with elegant and fruity aromas. Smooth and soft tannins. Tempranillo is a red grape variety which forms the backbone of some of the finest wines from Spain and Portugal. Almost every red wine from Rioja and Ribera del Duero has Tempranillo at its core. Tempranillo means “little early one”, a name given to it by Spanish growers who observed its habit of ripening earlier than Garnacha (Grenache), its traditional Spanish blending partner.
Eikendal Vineyards, South Africa

All the grapes are meticulously sourced from Stellenbosch and the Elgin Valley. Elgin offers a very cool climate at an altitude of 350m above sea level and is optimal for premium Sauvignon Blanc production. Each block is specifically grown to complement the style of this premium white blend.
Before fermentation, a lot of effort is put into preserving the natural fruit flavours and especially the natural acidity to ensure freshness and length.
Eikendal Sauvignon Blanc / Chardonnay 2018
The Eikendal Sauvignon Blanc-Chardonnay 2017 is a crisp wine with beautiful length and freshness The Chardonnay adds weight and structure with nuances of fresh apples and pears. The Sauvignon Blanc contributes fresh grassy, gooseberry and floral aromas. This wine is expressive with notes of ripe gooseberry and figs with peach and apricot and has a really tight and long finish.
Eikendal Shiraz / Petit Verdot 2017
The Eikendal Shiraz – Petit Verdot exudes notes of cherry tobacco and lusciously ripe berries. This accessible, medium bodied wine is clean and fresh with a sweetish, velvety round palate. Smooth, yet fruit-forward flavours inspire easy, everyday drinking.
Burgundy, France:
Barons De Medicis Brut, Blanc De Blancs,
This bubbly beauty from France offers notes of pear, green apple, white flowers and citrus. In making this Blanc de Blancs, Barons De Medicis eschewed the “Champagne” designation and opted simply to craft a truly outstanding sparkling wine — with Chardonnay grapes from Burgundy.Specifically, the grapes come from Montagny-les-Beaune, a commune in the Cote-d’Or department of Burgundy. It’s an area where the vineyards have been farmed with great care for generations, ensuring that the grapes are perfectly ripened and delicious — and absolutely perfect for crafting a delicious Blanc de Blancs.
